Interaction between Multi-Carboxyl Polymer and Zirconium Sulfate

摘要: 采用紫外-可见光谱、红外光谱、X射线光电子能谱、pH电位滴定以及量子化学计算等分析方法,研究了多羧基聚合物OP与硫酸锆在无铬鞣制中的相互作用。在室温及pH 0.95的条件下,锆离子主要与OP结构中的羧基发生配位反应,生成新的金属-有机配合物。OP的配位极大地提升了硫酸锆溶液的耐碱性,在n(OP)∶n(Zr4+)=1∶1时沉淀pH提高至10.37。与同样具有多羧基结构的聚丙烯酸相比,适当氧化的OP配位反应活性更弱,预示着OP与硫酸锆的配位反应更温和,更有利于OP-Zr配合物在无铬鞣制中的应用。

Abstract: The interaction mechanism between multi-carboxyl polymer (OP) and zirconium sulfate was investigated in the chrome-free tanning system by using UV-vis, FT-IR, XPS, pH potentiometric titration and quantum chemistry analysis. It was found that zirconium sulfate could coordinate with carboxyl groups of OP to form new metal-organic complexes at pH 0.95 and room temperature. The alkali resistance of zirconium sulfate solution was remarkably improved through coordination with OP. The precipitation pH was enhanced to 10.37 at the ratio of n(OP):n(Zr4+)=1:1. The coordination reactivity of OP with moderate carboxyl groups was weaker than that of polyacrylic acid with similar multi-carboxyl structure. This result suggests that the mild coordination reaction between OP and zirconium sulfate could benefit the application of OP-Zr complexes in the chrome-free tanning.
