Abstract: This paper discusses the effect of different hardness of insole on the cushioning of shoe and boot, and provides a theoretical basis for the design of insole. An insole type sole pressure test system was adopted, in which 20 subjects wore combat boots with no insole, soft insole and hard insole for walking and jogging tests on a treadmill and landing test on a 45cm high platform.Compared with the condition without insole, the insole improves the shock absorption performance of shoes and boots.Soft insoles offer better shock absorption in the midfoot and heel areas. The insole effectively improves the shock absorption performance of the whole shoe. In the design of the insole, different hardness materials can be selected for different areas. It is suggested to use hard materials in the front palm area and soft materials in the middle foot and heel area to obtain better shock absorption performance.
