Abstract
There are two types of blended spinning processes for the production of low-density polyethylene/nylon 6 (LDPE/PA6) staple fibers. One is a one-step method in which both spinning and drawing are done simultaneously, and the other is a two-step method in which the fibers are formed by spinning first, and then the next process of cluster and draft is adopted. This work compared the two co-blended spinning processes of LDPE/PA6 fibers. Under similar spinning process conditions, the two-step method had a more uniform distribution of island phases and a larger number of island phases. Under the same drafting ratio, the two-step method resulted in the higher crystallinity and mechanical properties of the fibers. In terms of spinning process controllability, the two-step method had good fiber quality controllability, and the production process was more effective and flexible. For large-scale microfiber leather manufacturers, it is recommended to adopt the two-step production process.
