Abstract: By sorting out the categories of Western women's shoes popular in modern Shanghai, this paper elaborated the stylistic features and artistic characteristics of each style category. On the whole, on the basis of following the western fashion, Shanghai women's shoes in this period showed a development trend of localization and improvement, which were divided into three categories, namely, material improvement with a Chinese focus, shoe last improvement with a western focus and upper pattern improvement with a combination of Chinese and western styles. This paper then carried out the design analysis according to these three kinds of improvement, and made a conclusion about the development path for the localization of Western women's shoes in modern Shanghai. The present research results can supplement the history of modern Chinese women's shoes development and provide ideas for exploring the localization path of contemporary Chinese women's shoes design.
